Theories-of-Atonement

This assignment facilitates understanding of four major theories of atonement (Christus victor, Satisfaction, Exemplar, Penal substitution).

In 1,000-1,250 words, briefly explain each of the four major atonement theories and then include the following for each:

Explanation of each theory using key scriptural texts cited, as warranted
Brief description of the historical circumstances in which each were articulated and their influence on the theory
Explanation of how each describes the work that was completed with Christ’s resurrection and ascension

Use at least three scholarly sources (preferably from the GCU Library), as well as the course texts and the Bible to support your explanations.
