Calculating-Response-Rate
Assignment6 – Calculating Response Rate
Purpose: To estimate response rates using different data collection methods. To recommend methods for handling low response rates.
- A group of researchers is interested in comparing attitudes toward two competing products. A random sample of 500 students was invited via email to participate in the study. They received a total of 347 completed surveys, and 24 of the email addresses were not longer valid. Calculate the response rate of the project. What method(s) would you recommend to increase the response rate?
- The Regional Transportation Authority is interested in conducting a disparity study in a particular zone of the city. The researcher drew a sample of 1,500 names from the local telephone directory. The researcher believes that at least half of the households to be contacted include at least one user of the transportation service. At the conclusion of the data collection phase of the project, the researchers recorded 956 completed interviews, 398 not-at-homes, 427 refusals, and 219 nonworking telephone numbers. Calculate the response rate on the project. What method(s) would you recommend to increase the response rate?
